Warrior House is ready for spring to get here so that we can start our hunting season! We currently have 15 Veterans signed up for turkey hunts in May. We really look forward to getting them out. Four Veterans are also going on a snow goose hunt this week. Since our last news letter we have been getting geared up for our gun raffle that will take place this weekend on April 7th. If you would like to help set up on the morning of the 7th please contact Ed Spence at 716-560-0697. Their are some tickets left and you can purchase them on line at https://www.warriorhouseofwny.com/gun-raffle. If you are coming to the gun raffle we will also be collecting men's toiletries at the door to send to a veterans homeless shelter. Soap, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, tooth paste, tooth brushes, mouth wash, etc. would all be appreciated. If you know of a veteran in need we have 50 tickets that were purchased by people that will not be attending the raffle. We will give the meals from those tickets to any veteran that needs it. Just contact Ed and he will help set it up.
In February we took nine Veterans out on a pheasant hunt. It was a great time and the weather actually wasn't too bad. We also gave a bike to a veteran that was staying at the homeless shelter and since receiving the bike has has been able to obtain a full time job that he uses the bike to go to every day. This has been a great turning point in his life and we hope it continues to be a blessing to him. Their was another veteran that was struggling financially and didn't have the funds to heat his house at the time. We were able to purchase a ton of wood pellets for him to help keep warm. We also had some volunteers go to his house to put the pellets in to his storage area for him, thanks to all that helped with this.
Unfortunately a Veteran named Berry Riddel we helped get moved in to an apartment two years ago passed away. He was so grateful of what we did for him he left most of his belongings to the Warrior House. A couple of weeks ago we went down and emptied his apartment out, thank you to all of those who volunteer and helped out. We currently have a homeless Veteran staying at the Warrior House and hope to have him in to an apartment in the next couple of weeks. He should be able to use all the items we have that Berry donated to us. Warrior House will be holding a funeral for Berry on April 18th in Attica. He didn't have many family members so anyone who could attend and give Berry your appreciation for his service to this country would be appreciated. Once we have the final arrangements set up we will send them out.
Our next meeting will be April 29th at the Warrior House. This meeting is for anyone interested in getting to know more about the Warrior House, interested in volunteering, or interested in how they can get signed up for our services. The meeting will start at noon and we will have pizza for anyone who attends. We will also be looking for anyone who would like to provide a meal for the Veterans that will be hunting at the Warrior House the following weekend. Hope to see you all at our gun raffle or next meeting. God Bless.
